The work of the enemy is to cause us to look at what we don’t have rather than to be grateful for what we do. He does the same thing today that he did with Eve, keeping us in a place of dissatisfaction instead of a place of joy. A sense of lack is like a black hole that sucks all the joy and gratefulness that we can try to muster up. But when we focus on what God has given us – His presence, His angels and heavenly beings to help us, the cloud of witnesses to cheer us on – we step into thankfulness for His extravagant love. Remember, a star gives off light, but a black hole sucks it in and snuffs it out. We are His lights in the world!
